Lichens as Biomonitors of Air Pollutants Deposition: Strategically Important Element Pollution

نویسندگان

چکیده

Investigation of various species lichen as biomonitors air pollutants deposition and evaluation element pollution were aimed. Maximum accumulation was 43.9±2.1 mg/kg in X. somloensis. Strontium quite high. Percentages strontium for L.pulmonaria, C.furcata, U.longissima, X.somloensis, F.caperata between 58% 78% indicating the efficient strontium. Lichens also accumulated strategically important elements. contamination factors lichens tantalum. hafnium, niobium, lithium, gallium, bismuth L. pulmonaria while maximum strontium, yttrium, scandium, cerium X.somloensis. factor tantalum F.caperata. Enrichment higher than 10, only lower 10 U.longissima. X.somloensis 10. Pollution load indexes L.pulmonaria U.longissima 1. Presence elements showed that can be used pollutants.

5 Lichens as bioindicators of air pollution

Lichens are considered the result of a symbiotic association of a fungus and an alga. More precisely the term “alga” indicates either a Cyanobacteriae or a Chlorophyceae; the fungus is usually an Ascomycetes, although on rare occasions it may be either a Basidiomycetes or a Phycomycetes. In this association, the alga is the part that is occupied with the formation of nutrients, since it contain...

Mosses, Epiphytic Lichens and Tree Bark as Biomonitors for Air Pollutants – Specifically for Heavy Metals in Regional Surveys

The thesis consists of regional forest condition studies, using different biomonitors. Heavy metal deposition was investigated in 1985–2000 on the basis of the heavy metal concentrations (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Ni, Pb, V, Zn) in mosses in Finland. A comparison on the suitability of mosses, epiphytic lichens and pine bark as biomonitors of heavy metals was also carried. Bark was also used to st...

Epiphytic Lichens: Their Usefulness as Bio-indicators of Air Pollution

Lichens are used as effective monitors to detect low-level air pollution which may affect different flora and fauna communities. Epiphytic lichens have been widely recognized as effective eco-friendly bio-monitors for detection of metal deposition on trees, rocks and bare ground. This article is concerned with the use of lichens in bio-monitoring of air pollution, how the lichens do recognize a...

Lichens as biomonitors of air quality around a diamond mine, northwest territories, Canada.

Lichens are known to be bioaccumulators of atmospheric pollutants and are abundant in the Canadian arctic. Mining in this region may negatively impact the tundra communities and these impacts may be detected by increased accumulation of heavy metals, greenhouse gas constituents, and organic compounds in lichen tissue. The effect of sampling direction and distance from a diamond mine on bioaccum...

Lichens as Biomonitors: Global, Regional and Local Aspects*

Lichens, a symbiosis of fungi and algae, have been widely used for biological monitoring of environmental quality. As some lichen species are virtually cosmopolitan organisms, they may be used for a survey of organic, inorganic, or radioactive contaminants on more or less a global scale, as well as for regional comparisons, and certainly at a more local scale. Some examples will be given for th...
